I make… by Will Wright

I have been involved with and witnessed the start up of this great project at 15 Queen Street. I have great belief in the raw talent and cultural output of Colchester, and scepticism aside, 15 Queen Street is certainly going a long way to convince me that a ‘cultural quarter’ can be viable. I’m aware that it is now down to sustained personal involvement through such a device as the membership hub that will make this happen.
As a youth, Colchester’s alternative and art communities have been a huge influence and inspiration, whether that was from a post punk industrial gig at the Rising Sun pub, where the insides of a tumble dryer made a percussion instrument, or the friends working out of the old Trinity Street galleries. It seemed that Colchester was able to sustain this cultural engagement of exciting and challenging experiences, and that fanned the flames that still burn within me and are expressed through my varied activities.
Currently I have three main media projects on the go. The Meme Project is a trans-media production that I have been developing with a producer in London for several years now. It is an expression of my obsession with digital culture and post humanism. A Sci-fi thriller told in several phases across social media, web series, live events and eventually a feature film.
The second is a collaboration with author David Moody on an original script for a zombie short film. I am a self confessed fanboy of the undead, and this project is a dream come true. I am working with a writer I admire, (the Autumn trilogy is in my mind the UK’s equivalent to Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic), focusing on characters and drama, with the living dead as my canvas to work with. The script is currently in its third draft and the aim is to crowd source the funds to shoot the film in Birmingham late 2011 early 2012.
Finally, Credo. A grassroots occult horror web series to be produced and shot in Colchester, incorporating not only a local cast and crew, but also a soundtrack comprised from local bands and producers. Initial interest in the first three drafted episodes has been excellent and once the further five are complete, then this will move on at speed, with the shoot initially scheduled for June.
Check out Credo on Facebook and follow the blog.
As my own projects develop I know I am able to take a more active part in being a member of 15 Queen Street. I have just completed a very demanding full time contract and I look forward to attending more events and engaging with Queen Street further.
