La Tertulia

La Tertulia is a brand new evening meet-up offering the opportunity to engage in spoken Spanish conversation and to explore and celebrate all aspects of Hispanic language and culture.
The evening sessions, held once a month with hostess Mary Pullen (BA Hons, PCGE), include discussion, debate, language games, creative writing activities, film, literature and more….
Open to native speakers and non-native speakers of Spanish (aged 18+). Anyone can come along with basic conversation and above.
Refreshments available.

Japanese Cultural Festival @ Slack Space

It’s the last week to experience the sugoi (superb) exhibition on at Slack Space at the moment.
All month they have teamed up with the Japanese Community to present an exhibition and wide range of events and activities from workshops, talks, to film nights and day long festivals.
Join then tonight from 7pm for the screening of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Tomorrow night is a screening of Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story, two classic Japanese films not to be missed.

Japan Cultural Festival @ Slack Space

For three weeks in August and September, Slack Space are hosting a Japanese Cultural festival led by the Japanese Community. There is a wide range of events and activities from workshops, talks, to film nights and day long festivals.
Join them for Jiriki Seitai (Japanese self healing) exercize classes. Showing two classic Japanese films: Seven Samurai and Tokyo Story. Plus our project co-ordinator Alex Davis is presenting a talk on Japanese Folklore: Myths and Beasts - the Yokai monsters in Japanese Culture.
This is a fantastic event for budding Japan lovers and anyone interested in being introduced a fascinating culture. Join them on Wednesday 24th August for the Opening Party. There will be music from Hibiki Ichikawa, Japanese refreshments and a chance to meet with the organisers and some of the artists behind the exhibition.
