Call for artists!
Local artist Paula MacGregor is looking for artists who would like to run a creative workshop for Slack Space.
They cannot offer any payment but may be able to help with the materials. Artists are invited to host three hour workshops for adults during the daytime, evening, or at the weekend. Whatever suits you.
Paula is the workshop co-ordinator and can help and advise you. If you have a craft skill but have not run a workshop before, this could be the perfect place to start. Paula will support you as much as you need it!
Contact Paula via email if you can offer anything. Some requests and suggestions are: batik, carving, printing, scrapbooking…. or maybe you can do something they haven’t thought of!

Sumi Ink Club

Our flexi member Roblockness (Rob Lock) hosted the Sumi Ink Club here a few weeks ago.
Based on the Los Angeles group - Sumi Ink Club, we invited participants to come use the Japanese ink known as Sumi and draw on the walls. There are many different rules but for this evening event, Roblockness simply asked “no names, numbers or words”.

Areas were masked out in our current empty office space and people went wild for the evening. View more pictures of the night on our flickr here.
We hope Rob will host another Sumi Ink Club in 2012. Watch this space!

The Herb Swap Printshop @ Cuckoo Farms

Wednesday 27th July - Papermaking
Thursday 28th July - Printmaking
Throughout the day, 9am – 9pm
Benham Gallery, Cuckoo Farm Studios, Boxted Road, Colchester, CO4 5HH
Liz Lake has been artist in residence at Cuckoo Farm Studios from 1st - 31st July. She has been using Cuckoo Farm as a project space to explore natural and found materials in printmaking and papermaking. Her process-based work will be developed over the course of the month to form an installation piece. Outside the gallery she will make a structure from materials found on-site and close by to become a herb garden.
She is running two free workshops in exchange for herb plants with papermaking on the Wednesday and print making Thursday. She asks to please bring a herb from the following list: rosemary, watermint, watercress, wild garlic, calendula, chives, lemon balm, sweet violet, sorrel, chamomile, strawbery, parsley, oregano, tarragon and sage.
The focus of the workshops will be on plants, exploring how they can inform both the making process and the context of the work. You will be using simple techniques, combined with cheap, found and recycled materials.
Please email Liz or phone 07852575134 to book a place and a time.
